Exposing : Create a Latent Image ( Invisible Image ) on to the drum surface. ( Exposing of
Exposure Lamp )
In the Second Step of the Exposing a light illuminates the underside of the original document. The
image of the document is then projected onto the surface of the drum via Mirror and Lens. The
area on the drum exposed to light then becomes a conductor. The charge in those areas passes
through to ground. In either case, the areas of the drum exposed to light are selectively
discharged, causing a reduction in the electric field. The darker areas retain their charge. What is
left is an invisible electrical image of the original document called the “Electrostatic Latent
Image”.
